What was the response of the Turkish people to the 1980 coup?
Before, during and after the two previous coups in 1960 and 1974, there had been growing public unrest, bombings, assassinations, riots and orchestrated street fighting between conflicting groups. By the third coup, the Turkish public had learned to stay calm. There was no visible public reaction.
