Are Fethullah Gülen and Hizmet secretly working toward the foundation of an Islamic state?
No. The discourse and actions of the Gülen Movement – their teaching and projects within Turkish social and cultural life – do not transgress any procedural or institutional boundaries. Their services and organizations do not break the rules of the political game or the acclaimed secularism in Turkey. On the contrary, Fethullah Gülen has even been feted by Turkey’s secular establishment. The message he preaches is one of tolerance, promoting a non-politicized form of Islam which can peacefully coexist with Turkey’s strongly secular state.
